Underestimating Momentum
60Measuring the Speed of Life
Ever feel like you can't change anything? Problems of society are just too big for your little hands, and the problems of your life need to take precedence anyway? It's a very common misconception to fall victim to, leaving you to feel powerless in all aspects of life. You might think about the problems we face as a nation, and you might find yourself wondering when someone else is going to fix them. Most of the time this reaction doesn't come from laziness, or indolence, rather it comes from a lack of understanding about how you impact your surroundings. As much as we choose to believe that we are just one person, this country is made up of "1 person"s; 300 Million of them!
When things go wrong, it seems one thing after another falls apart, like a chain reaction. Once you've spilled coffee on your silk shirt in the car on the way to work, you can be sure you will also lock your keys in the car and drop your cell phone in the toilet. If you're female, you will probably break your high-heels as well (just one more thing men don't have to worry about!).
How does this happen? Momentum. Momentum is defined as: "force or speed of objects; impetus, as of a physical object, or course of events" by dictionary.com
Inevitably, the speed at which you travel toward your end result will increase, as long as the direction you're heading in is validated by your thoughts and actions.
Let's apply this to personal debt. Imagine you're young, and you've just been approved for your first credit card. Figure your limit is $1000.00 and you want to buy your mother lunch. You charge that lunch, add a nice tip (30% will do), and go about your life. Your first bill comes, and you pay it off right away. "That was easy!". Next month, you take your mother out to lunch, and you buy your self some new outfits. Your credit card is now maxed out, and you can't afford the whole $1000.00 when you get your next bill, so you pay a portion of it, and accrue some interest. The credit card company (because they like you so much) notices the longevity of your payment history, and they raise your limit to $5000.00. You carry a $700.00 balance, but that balance is now minuscule in comparison to your new and improved limit. You go shopping....
The direction of this cascade of events leads to debt. That is where you will end up, and sooner than later as it picks up speed. It feels really good to buy yourself shiney, new, over-priced items that you're not going to remember you even own one year from now (while you're still paying for them).
Change directions, and the same thing happen. Once you choose to stop spending more than you make, and start paying back as much as you can, sooner than later your debt will be eliminated. Paying back your debt feels so good, that you now forgo your daily coffee saving you $90.00/ month, and your debt paying momentum speeds up.
This law of momentum applies to everything. It will NEVER not work. The best way to influence the masses is to change yourself. Turn yourself toward a direction that makes sense for you, and start heading in it. Others will notice, get jealous that they're not as awesome as you, and follow suit!
Viola- new and improved society. It really is that simple!
Not only do I have needs to be met in this life, but I have WANTS to to be met as well. It is absolutely impossible that there is no redemption from this economic situation we are in. We are a country united under the United States Constitution, and protected by the Bill of Rights. Our forefathers were a group of "1 person"s, and America is now a country composed of 300 Million "1 person"s. If you are facing a direction that will lead to pain and suffering, TURN AROUND, and then do things to propel yourself into a future that perpetuates health, wealth and happiness. Momentum will take over for you, and as it does, it will be taking over for others as well.
